An icon of French design
In 1974, LIP invited 7 designers from outside the watchmaking industry to breathe new life into the brand's collections. This resulted in the presentation of a new collection in 1975, which showcased incredibly innovative models.
The Big TV watch was designed by the brilliant designer Roger Tallon. Inspired by the work done on the Portavia 111 portable television, he designed a square case with rounded corners for greater wearing comfort: TV and BIG TV. Inside this square case, a round dial is integrated for easy time reading.
Incidentally, Roger Tallon was the designer of the iconic TGV high-speed trains. He also collaborated with Lip on the MACH 2000 model range (which we also offer).

LIP, a legend from France
LIP is a renowned French brand that has been producing quality watches for over 150 years. The company was founded in 1867 by Emmanuel Lipmann in Besançon, France. Initially, the brand focused on producing pocket watches, but with the development of technology, it began producing wristwatches as well. Over the years, Lip designed and produced approximately 40 different movements for pocket and wristwatches.
LIP watches are known for their elegant and timeless design, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The brand collaborated with renowned designers and artists, such as André Donat (designer of the T18 model) and Roger Tallon (designer of the Mach 2000 model).
One of the most iconic LIP watches is the "Baignoire" model, designed in 1925 by the company's founder. This watch features a rectangular case and a unique crown placement at 12 o'clock. It was worn by famous personalities, such as Pablo Picasso and Marilyn Monroe.
An indelible mark in the watchmaking world
Among watch collectors, the most sought-after watches are probably those launched in the 1950s and late 1960s. At that time, LIP helped the then practically unknown brand Blancpain with the marketing and sale of their waterproof watches. Models from this period bear not only the Blancpain logo but also the LIP logo on the dial. Furthermore, initially, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms series were indeed powered by the Lip R23 movement.
LIP watches also made history by being the first brand to introduce electric watches in 1952. The watch worn in space in 1961 by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was powered by a licensed LIP movement.
Vandaag, LIP continues to innovate and produce quality watches that combine elegant design. Their watches are sold in over 70 countries worldwide and are highly popular among watch enthusiasts and collectors.
