After World War I, many military aircraft were decommissioned. In 1919, British aviation pioneers Alcock and Brown dared to make the first transatlantic flight in a modified Vickers Vimy aircraft. In a similar spirit, Vario redesigned their Trench model into elegant inclined pilot watches.

1919 also brought another significant event – the first flight from England to Australia. Captain Ross McPherson Smith and his brother Sir Keith Macpherson Smith completed this journey, with the aircraft landing in Singapore on December 4, 1919, making it the first aircraft to land in the "Lion City." It is likely that Captain McPherson Smith used inclined watches, similar to those represented today by the Vario 1918 Pilot – a tribute to these brave aviation pioneers and their exceptional achievements.

The Vario 1918 Pilot model is a modern interpretation of World War I trench watches, enhanced with cutting-edge modern features. It offers a robust enamel dial, sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, a high-quality stainless steel case with reinforced wire lugs for maximum security, and water resistance up to 50 meters.

Thanks to non-radioactive luminescence and a precise Japanese mechanical hand-wound movement with hacking function, this model brings not only reliability but also a touch of period elegance.
