There are watches that are manufactured. And then there are watches that are created. The Czech Edition represents the latter. This exclusive model is the result of a direct collaboration between the Hong Kong family brand Sunrex Watches and INFINITY Watches, the only specialized retail partner for microbrands in Europe. 

In 2024, Sunrex Watches made its first foray into Europe, stopping in Prague for the MICRO PRAHA festival, Central Europe's largest showcase of independent watch brands. For Ray and Chi, it was their first direct contact with European watch enthusiasts, and Prague impressed them more than they expected. The city, the atmosphere, the people, and especially the keen interest with which Czech collectors approach watches as objects with a story, not as consumer goods.

Upon returning to Hong Kong, they decided they couldn't leave this experience unanswered. In collaboration with INFINITY Watches, the idea of a limited edition emerged, paying tribute to the meeting of two worlds. The result is the Czech Edition: fifteen numbered pieces, a roundel in the colors of the Czech tricolor, and a white strap with stripes. Watches that would not have come into existence without their visit to the Czech Republic.

Roundel: the Czech flag in the cockpit

A key distinguishing feature of the Czech Edition is the roundel at the 9 o'clock position. The circular aviation target divided into three sectors in the colors of the Czech tricolor – red, white, blue – directly refers to the insignia of the Air Force of the Army of the Czech Republic. Unlike a standard sub-dial, the roundel physically rotates and functions as a small seconds hand. Instead of a thin needle, the entire colored target shows time second by second, its rotation being noticeable at first glance. It is a mechanically natural solution with a visually strong result – a moving Czech flag on the wrist.

The same tricolor scheme is repeated on the white strap, whose edge bears a red and blue stripe. On the standard Beta model, the sub-dial has a neutral design; the Czech Edition transforms it into a conscious national symbol.

The roundel as such has been in aviation iconography for over a hundred years. Sectoral divisions in national colors served as identification marks for combat aircraft since World War I. On the Beta dial, this symbol finds a new home and a new meaning.

Sunrex Beta: a vintage pilot's chronograph with a solar heart

The foundation of the Czech Edition is the Beta model, a solar chronograph with the design language of 1950s aircraft instruments. A black dial with patinated indices and Superluminova-treated hands, a double-domed museum-grade sapphire crystal, and a rotating black DLC bezel are direct references to pilot's watches from the golden age of jet aviation.

The selection of the base model for the Czech Edition was not accidental. Beta is Sunrex's flagship. It is the model that best expresses the brand's philosophy: watches that pay homage to the golden age of aviation, while uncompromisingly considering the practicality of wear in the 21st century.

Sunrex adheres to the philosophy that watches should primarily serve and not just look good. And this is where the Epson VS75A solar movement, which Sunrex named Viluminus™, comes into play. The choice of solar power for an aviation chronograph is neither a compromise nor a cheap solution – it is a conscious philosophical decision. A pilot doesn't wonder if their battery will run out or if the movement has been wound. They need a tool that simply works. Solar power provides this reliability: the watch charges from any light, the power reserve when fully charged reaches approximately six months, and if the energy drops to a minimum, the movement itself signals it – the second hand jumps in two-second increments. No app, no display indicator. Pure, legible mechanical signaling.

At the same time, Beta offers everything you expect from an aviation chronograph: a museum-grade double-domed sapphire crystal with minimal glare for perfect readability, a rotating bezel with a scratch-resistant black DLC coating, a precise chronograph measuring to 1/5 of a second, and 100m water resistance. The 316L stainless steel case has robust proportions (41mm diameter, 14mm profile) that match the character of a tool, not an ornament.

For the Czech Edition, this base was ideal. A watch with a clear purpose, a clear identity, and a movement that requires no care.

About the brand

Sunrex is not a new brand – it's a family with fifty years of experience in the watchmaking industry. The story began in 1975, when their father founded a production of innovative stainless steel digital watches in Taiwan, which were ahead of their time. When the market changed, the family moved to Hong Kong in 1978 and shifted from digital production to analog. Over forty years of quiet work followed: Sunrex designed and manufactured watches for other brands worldwide, totaling over 100 million pieces.

In 2002, Ray and Chi – the second generation – joined the family business, bringing a fresh perspective and a deep respect for craftsmanship. After two decades of working behind the scenes, they decided to create something of their own. In 2018, Sunrex was reborn – this time as a brand with its own story, its own design language, and its own technology. Watches they wanted to wear themselves: vintage-inspired, solar-powered, built to last a lifetime.
