Who is Jörg Schauer

Jörg Schauer is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary German independent watchmaking. Born in 1968, he began his professional career as a goldsmith and watchmaker, focusing from the outset on precision, detail, and quality craftsmanship. In the 1980s, he trained in traditional watchmaking and soon after began working as an independent manufacturer of cases for various German and Swiss brands. It was precisely his mastery of case manufacturing that later became one of his main hallmarks.

In the early 1990s, he decided to strike out on his own and in 1990 founded the brand bearing his name – Schauer. In the beginning, he produced watches in very small series, often only dozens of pieces, emphasizing manual work and an individual approach to each model. His goal was not to compete with large manufactures but to offer something that was missing in German watchmaking at the time – modern, technically precise watches with a clear visual identity. His steel cases with twelve screws in the bezel, distinct dial legibility, and a combination of "tool" character with fine aesthetics soon became typical hallmarks.

Thanks to his approach, Schauer quickly gained recognition among collectors throughout Europe. Each piece bore his personal signature – not only as a designer but also as someone who genuinely participated in the production. All production was limited to approximately a few hundred watches per year, which gave the brand exclusivity. In the late 1990s, Jörg Schauer also bought the well-known Stowa brand, expanding his operations and contributing to the renaissance of classic German pilot watches. However, he never abandoned his own Schauer brand, which he retained as a personal creative platform.

The beginnings of the Schauer brand are thus based on authentic watchmaking craftsmanship, the courage to forge its own path, and a clearly defined design language. All of this has made it a respected player in the segment of independent manufacturers, which still appeals to connoisseurs looking for authenticity, not mass production.

Thanks to the sale of the Stowa brand, Jorg now once again has the time and space to dedicate himself to his creative projects under the Schauer brand.
