More than eight decades after its creation, the Resolute Type A reinterprets a historical aviation instrument through the lens of RZE's modern tool watch philosophy: in lightweight, durable titanium with UltraHex™ coating, ready to withstand whatever adventure brings.
The Type A dial originates from the late 1930s and early 1940s, when the German Air Force commissioned pilot watches from five manufacturers. The task was to provide pilots with instant legibility in brightly lit cockpits: a black dial with white printing, a minute track around the entire circumference, eleven Arabic numeral indices, and a characteristic triangle with two dots at 12 o'clock. This visual logic has survived an entire century unchanged. Simply because it works.
The RZE Type A dial deliberately does not faithfully reproduce the historical pattern, but is a contemporary interpretation of it. The hour ring uses modern typography with sharp cuts, the sword hands have an angular profile, and the dial is multi-layered with a sandwich construction: an outer minute track with a lume-integrated scale lies above the main dial field, adding depth. The seconds hand is 70% orange, with the remaining 30% being luminous material – a color accent that feels functional rather than fashionable.
Scratch-resistant titanium
The Grade 2 titanium case with UltraHex™ treatment achieves a hardness of approximately 1,200 Hv – about eight times more than bare titanium or 316L steel. Diameter 39.5 mm, lug-to-lug length 46 mm, thickness 11.5 mm. On a strap, the watch weighs only 46 grams. A screw-down crown and Viton™ gaskets ensure 100m water resistance.
Exhibition caseback – a first in RZE history
The caseback is secured by four screws and features a sapphire crystal window reminiscent of an artificial horizon in a pilot's cockpit. Through it, the skeletonized rotor of the Miyota 82S0 movement is visible, behind which a stylized aircraft is engraved on the back. These are the first RZE watches with a transparent caseback.
Miyota 82S0 Movement
The Miyota 82S0 automatic movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 42 hours. It is equipped with a hacking seconds function. The movement profile is 5.7 mm – slightly thicker for a three-hand automatic without a date, but the resulting thickness of 11.5 mm in the case wears comfortably.
Three variations, three characters
Carbon Black remains closest to the vintage original: cream indices with beige luminescence and an orange seconds hand as the only color accent. Polaris White is a monochromatic modern alternative with a black minute track and a yellow seconds hand. Medallion Yellow is RZE's sharpest expression – a rough dial texture, a black minute track, and a striking color that is the brand's signature.
Strap and optional bracelet
The watch comes on a TecTuff® strap – a synthetic top layer bonded to calf leather, titanium buckle.
