MING Polymesh
A bracelet that behaves like a strap. 1,693 parts 3D-printed from titanium as a single unit.
The MING Polymesh is an accessory for which the label “innovative” is not just a marketing phrase. MING created it as an entirely new type of connection between a classic metal bracelet and a flexible strap – and its construction could practically not be achieved through conventional manufacturing methods.
The result is a 3D-printed Grade 5 titanium bracelet that combines the tactile and visual character of metal with the suppleness of a classic strap.
1,693 parts. Made all at once.
Polymesh consists of an incredible 1,693 individual interconnected components, including the clasp. However, they are not made separately and then assembled.
The entire Polymesh is created as one piece using additive manufacturing and laser sintering of Grade 5 titanium. Individual links are created hooked into neighboring parts in a closed structure during the manufacturing process itself.
This is precisely why it cannot be produced using conventional machining. Producing one bracelet takes several hours and requires the gradual creation of several hundred individual layers.
The final solution was reached only after seven complete design redesigns.
A bracelet that moves differently
Polymesh is not just a titanium equivalent of a classic Milanese mesh. Its internal geometry was designed to allow more radial movement around the wrist than lateral movement.
It is this feature that gives it unusual flexibility. It can adapt to the shape of the wrist much like a soft strap, yet it retains the feel, appearance, and durability of a metal bracelet.
As MING themselves put it: a bracelet that wears like a strap, and a strap with the tactile character of a bracelet.
Grade 5 titanium and production between Italy and Switzerland
MING collaborated on the development and production with the Italian company Sisma S.p.A. and the Swiss ProMotion SA. The Grade 5 titanium used offers high strength at a very low weight and fits well with the technical character of the entire construction.
The Polymesh also includes an integrated tuck buckle system, so there is no need to leave the end of the bracelet dangling.
Attachment to the watch is ensured by 20mm curved-end quick-release spring bars, which allow the Polymesh to be attached and removed without tools.
Why would you want a MING Polymesh?
Because it is not just another alternative bracelet for MING watches.
Polymesh is a demonstration of how a new manufacturing technology can enable the creation of a structure that could not exist at all using conventional methods. Its 1,693 parts are created simultaneously as a single entity, yet the resulting bracelet is able to move and wrap around the wrist.
It is as light as titanium, as supple as a strap, and at first glance looks like something you know – until you look closely.
MING Polymesh is not a titanium bracelet made in a different way. It is a different way to think about a watch bracelet at all.
