Sushi lovers are in good hands at MING – this is evidenced by the naming of the 37.09 Bluefin, which won the Sports Watch Prize at GPHG 2024. And it is precisely to celebrate this award that MING decided to add a more exotic sea creature than tuna to the menu: the sea urchin, or uni in Japanese.
Inspiration from the seabed
Sea urchins are best described as resilient: they have hard black shells, venomous spines, and jealously guard their shiny orange treasures. Although they move primarily with ocean currents, they have been found worldwide from the surface to the hadalpelagic zone below 6,000m. They are simply deep-sea divers.
Rotating sapphire dial – operable even underwater
One of the key design elements it shares with the Bluefin is an internal rotating sapphire glass dial – a feature that replaces the traditional bezel on dive watches. The crown at 4 o'clock, marked with an orange ring, controls the unidirectional rotating dial with a luminescent dive scale and sixty clicks, the first 20 minutes of which glow with orange Super-LumiNova. The crown at 2 o'clock is screw-down and serves to wind and set the time.
The Uni introduces a new hour marker design, features an extraordinary amount of Super-LumiNova on the dial, crystal, and hands, and is the first MING model with orange glowing Super-LumiNova.
Case and 600m water resistance
The 316L stainless steel case with a matte brushed finish and black DLC coating measures 38mm in diameter, 12.8mm in thickness, and 44.5mm lug-to-lug. Domed sapphire crystal on both front and back with double-sided anti-reflective coating. To achieve 600m water resistance, MING optimized the curvature and thickness of both front and back sapphire crystals. The watch has undergone destructive testing at 900m after 24 hours of saturation – the official value of 600m thus carries a safety margin.
Movement
At the heart of the watch is the Sellita for MING SW300.M1 automatic movement with skeletonized bridges and rotor in anthracite finish with contrasting circular brushing. Hacking for precise setting, power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
Strap
Molded FKM rubber strap, 20mm width, curved spring bars with quick-release, "flying blade" pin buckle with micro-adjustment.
