Horologer MING was founded in 2017 with the ambition to restore to watches their lost ability to fascinate through thoughtful design, innovative materials, and proprietary technology. The 37.02 Minimalist model represents one of the key milestones on this journey.
The first watch developed entirely in Switzerland
The 37.02 Minimalist is the first model that MING designed, technically developed, and manufactured entirely in-house, at its own Swiss facility in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The gradual internalization of engineering work and manufacturing began almost two years before the model's launch. The goal was to constantly innovate, offer better value for money, and gain greater control over the supply chain and shorter delivery times.
MING Polar White: white luminescence after years of searching
In-house manufacturing facilities provide more room for innovation, and the luminous signature of the 37.02 Minimalist is compelling proof of this. Ming Thein had tried for many years to develop a luminous material that would truly glow white – despite numerous attempts with external suppliers, this goal remained unattainable. With the 37.02 Minimalist model, this was finally achieved in-house: the proprietary MING Polar White luminous material was created.
MING Polar White has a broad-spectrum emission, making it one of the few (perhaps the only) luminous materials that truly glows white, not just with a hint of color. The material is not merely a coating on the dial surface – it is liquid-filled into laser-cut grooves directly in the sapphire glass, in a triple-etched pattern around the entire circumference, where each gap between the luminous semicircles marks one hour.
Philosophical successor to the 17.01 and 27.01 models
The 37.02 Minimalist was chosen as the first model developed under MING's new corporate structure precisely because it builds on the philosophy of the 17.01 and 27.01 models – both key milestones in the brand's history. It represents the current distillation of what, according to MING, essential, reductionist watches should represent. It sits equally well on a leather strap as on a shaped rubber band, under a suit cuff, or on the beach. They are self-winding, always ready to wear, quick to adjust, and can be worn formally or sportily depending on the occasion.
Dial: a play of light and shadow
The dial is luminous and styled in a dynamic way that only sapphire allows, and depending on the viewing angle, the colors invert, the dial lights up, reflects seemingly floating indices, or conversely absorbs light like a black hole. It is legible without being monotonously boring; balanced without being symmetrical. The back of the dial is metallized, creating a dynamic effect that transitions between deep black and reflective depth depending on the angle of incident light. The hands remain in blue-glowing Super-LumiNova X1, providing visual contrast that improves legibility.
Case and movement
The 37 series case, constantly refined, measures 38 × 11 mm. The narrow bezel and combination of polished and brushed surfaces make the watch visually larger and thinner than its actual dimensions suggest, while remaining comfortable on a wide range of wrist sizes. The oversized fluted crown and double seal allow for easy winding and adjustment and ensure 100m water resistance.
At the heart of the watch is the Sellita for MING SW300.M1 automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 45 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). The bridges and plates are semi-skeletonized and coated with an anthracite finish, the open rotor has a brushed edge and bears the engraved brand name. This mechanism is fully visible through the sapphire case back.
Strap
The watch comes standard with a new FKM rubber strap, shaped to match the wrist's curve. The strap features a special tuck clasp that tucks the end of the longer side under the clasp itself. The result is a clean look with no overhang.
