About the model
The MAEN Manhattan 40 is a direct response to the demand for a larger format of the popular Manhattan 37 model. The same philosophy, the same level of craftsmanship – this time in a 40mm case. The watch carries the DNA of iconic sport-chic models of the 1970s, featuring an octagonal vertically elongated bezel, integrated bracelet, and a Côtes de Genève dial. These are all key elements that instantly identify the model. Yet, it remains an everyday watch, not just a display piece.
Côtes de Genève (or Geneva stripes) is a decorative technique originating from traditional Swiss watchmaking. On the Manhattan 40 dial, it is used in a vertically elongated version, which changes the luminous character of the surface depending on the viewing angle and light intensity. The result is a vibrant, shimmering surface that looks different in light than in shadow. Applied polished indices sit directly on this surface, enhancing legibility without disrupting the dial's aesthetic.
Available colors are Midnight Blue and Marsh Green. Each variant is available with or without a date function.
The octagonal bezel with prominent facets references the characteristic case of sport-chic watches of the 1970s. The combination of satin-brushed and polished surfaces emphasizes the geometry of the entire case and creates an interesting play of light. The total case thickness is 10.2 mm, and thanks to the choice of the La Joux-Perret G100 movement, the MAEN team was able to keep the profile at an acceptable level even with a 40 mm diameter. The watch wears comfortably on the wrist.
The bracelet is an integral part of the design – it merges with the case into a single unit and visually extends its lines. It is screwed directly into the case back with four screws, a detail that characterized many vintage models from the 1970s. The gradual tapering from 24 mm at the case to 17 mm at the clasp ensures comfortable wear and a natural curve. The finish matches the case: satin brush with polished bevels on the edges.
The G100 automatic movement comes from the Swiss manufacturer La Joux-Perret. With a power reserve of over 65 hours, it is among the best in the mid-price segment – it will last over two and a half days without being worn on a single wind. The movement runs at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, is equipped with shock protection, and has 24 jewels.

About the brand
MAEN Watches is an independent watchmaking brand founded in 2017 by Dutch designers Jules van Helvoort and Sebastiaan Cortjaens. The idea originated in Stockholm, where they both lived and decided to create a brand combining Nordic simplicity with a Dutch sense of design and detail.
MAEN focuses on modern mechanical watches inspired by classic shapes of the 60s and 70s. Model lines such as Hudson, Skymaster, and Manhattan are based on historical archetypes, which the brand interprets in a contemporary way – with compact dimensions, precise craftsmanship, and Swiss movements.
Thanks to its clean design, direct approach to customers, and emphasis on quality, the brand quickly established itself among the most interesting new European microbrand manufacturers.
