Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur Silver
Two dials, two independent automatic movements, and a design that seems to come from an alternative history of watchmaking. Futur Antérieur Silver is mechanical art in its purest form.
A collaboration between the Swiss brand Louis Erard and legendary independent watchmaker Vianney Halter has produced a model that pushes the boundaries of the traditional concept of mechanical watches. Futur Antérieur Silver draws inspiration from Halter’s celebrated Antiqua, whose retro-futuristic design evokes complex instruments, portholes, and mechanical devices from an imagined past.
A defining feature is the two raised circular dials, each with its own function. The lower one displays the hours and minutes, while the upper one separately tracks the seconds. In this version, the dials have a rhodium-plated silver-toned finish with a fine grained texture, complemented by applied rings with a circular-brushed finish. Bold blued-steel hands create an elegant contrast, while polished yellow-gilt rivets on the bezels underscore Vianney Halter’s unmistakable signature.
The steel case comprises 67 precisely crafted components. Its construction combines circular-brushed upper surfaces, vertically brushed sides, and polished chamfers. The two distinctive crowns are each adorned with six yellow-gilt rivets, while a pair of sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the dials. Despite its complex construction, the watch has compact dimensions of 38 × 44 mm, a thickness of just 8.85 mm, and water resistance to 5 ATM.
Its truly distinctive feature is the use of two separate Sellita SW100 automatic calibers. One drives the hour and minute hands, while the other is dedicated exclusively to the seconds hand. Both movements operate at a frequency of 4 Hz, have 25 jewels, and offer a power reserve of at least 38 hours. This unconventional solution is not merely a design flourish, but a meticulous mechanical expression of Halter’s watchmaking philosophy.
The watch’s silver-toned character is complemented by a blue ostrich leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching, perfectly matched to the blued hands and lending the model a striking yet refined elegance.

About Vianney Halter
Vianney Halter was born in 1963 on the outskirts of Paris, the son of a locomotive driver for the French railways. Even as a child, he was fascinated by the old machines and mechanical devices his father brought home. Perhaps this early exposure to powerful locomotives, steam engines, and other measuring instruments is what drew him to technology and mechanics.
At the age of fourteen, Vianney Halter decided to expand his interest in mechanics and moved to Paris, where he enrolled at the École Horlogère de Paris (Paris Watchmaking School). He graduated successfully in 1980 and spent the first ten years of his career restoring antique watches and clocks, gaining an in-depth knowledge of the art of watchmaking.
Since 1984, he has worked as an independent watchmaker and began creating timepieces for well-known brands such as Harry Winston, Breguet, and Audemars Piguet. Since 1998, he has also designed and developed his own collection of wristwatches. His designs are considered avant-garde and are seen as the beginning of a new direction in watchmaking. Vianney Halter creates unusual watches using the traditional methods of master watchmakers of the past, while incorporating a unique aesthetic, his own technical patents, and distinctive constructions.
All of this is exemplified by his first model, “Antiqua,” a perpetual calendar introduced in 1998. This model was immediately hailed as a “relic of the future,” which inspired Halter’s creativity and enabled him to join the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI).
His years as an independent watchmaker and his contribution to modern watchmaking have already earned him nine prestigious awards. He has created around ten wristwatch models, but the complexity of their manufacture means that production figures are kept secret. To date, fewer than 500 watches by Vianney Halter have been made.
The quality of his expertise has also earned him a place among the figures featured in the official “White Paper” (Livre Blanc) of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, which aims to define the boundaries of the exclusive world of technical and valuable precision watchmaking.
Vianney Halter works as an artist, expressing his creativity and style through the skills he has mastered—those belonging to the art of watch construction.
