The Louis Erard x Konstantin Chaykin Le Diptyque combines two versions of the Time Eater model into a single collector's set. It includes watches with diameters of 42 mm and 39 mm, with each version originally created as a separate limited edition of 178 pieces. The complete Diptyque set itself, however, is significantly rarer – only 28 sets exist.

Behind the unmistakable face of the watch stands Konstantin Chaykin, an independent watchmaker renowned, among other things, for his Wristmons series. In collaboration with Louis Erard, he has brought his signature humor and light provocation to a traditional regulator layout.

The cyclops that devours time

At first glance, you might not even perceive the individual watchmaking functions. What you see first is the grotesque face of a one-eyed monster.

That is where Chaykin’s genius lies. The individual elements of the dial have their practical functions, but together they create a face. The striking "eye" and an open mouth full of teeth give the watch a slightly unsettling, but above all playful character typical of Chaykin’s Wristmons.

Both sizes are not merely copies of the same design in a different case. Side by side, they work as a pair – and that is exactly why the Le Diptyque concept makes so much sense.

Two sizes in one set

The set includes the 42 mm Time Eater and the 39 mm Time Eater. The different proportions give each watch a slightly different character while showcasing two interpretations of the same idea.

Inside ticks the automatic Sellita SW266-1, which is adapted to Louis Erard's characteristic regulator display. It offers a power reserve of approximately 38 hours, and its operation can be observed through the transparent case back.

The dial is protected by sapphire crystal, the water resistance is 50 meters, and a distinctive highlight is the black toad leather straps with contrast stitching that color-coordinates with the dial.

It is the combination of these two names that makes the Time Eater so interesting. In recent years, Louis Erard has used its signature regulator watches as a canvas for collaborations with prominent independent watchmakers and designers. Instead of simply placing a guest name on the dial, it gives them the opportunity to truly reshape the brand's traditional concept.

And Konstantin Chaykin is the ideal partner for such a project. His Wristmons have shown that mechanical watches can be technically serious while simultaneously witty, provocative, and instantly recognizable.
