French President Charles de Gaulle's Watch

This iconic model stands out with its elegant polished stainless steel case, measuring 35 mm in diameter, and a timeless design that has gained popularity across generations. In its redesigned form, it brings a vintage style with a white sunray dial and a subtle silvery hue. It offers a classic three-hand time display with a date function – a minimalist approach that appears clean and elegant.

The watch is fitted with a black leather strap with a crocodile pattern and a chrome-plated pin buckle, which emphasizes its refined appearance. It is designed to accompany everyday life with natural elegance and a modern touch.

The history of this model dates back to the 1950s. Upon returning from the United States, Fred Lip was convinced of the future of electric watches and embarked on the development of revolutionary technology. In 1952, a prototype of the very first electric wristwatch was presented in Paris, equipped with the groundbreaking R27 movement. It went on sale in 1958 and was a true technical milestone that paved the way for the creation of quartz watches. This model, also known as "General de Gaulle," was the result of ten years of research and development and was given to both General de Gaulle and General Eisenhower.

    LIP legend from France

LIP is a renowned French brand that has been producing quality watches for over 150 years. The company was founded in 1867 by Emmanuel Lipmann in Besançon, France. Initially, the brand focused on producing pocket watches, but with the advancement of technology, it also started manufacturing wristwatches. Over the years, Lip has designed and produced approximately 40 different movements for pocket and wristwatches.

LIP watches are known for their elegant and timeless design, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The brand has collaborated with renowned designers and artists, such as André Donat (designer of the T18 model) and Roger Tallon (designer of the Mach 2000 model).

One of the most iconic LIP watches is the "Baignoire" model, designed in 1925 by the company's founder. This watch features a rectangular case and a unique crown placement at 12 o'clock. It has been worn by famous personalities such as Pablo Picasso and Marilyn Monroe.

An indelible mark in the watchmaking world

Among watch collectors, the most sought-after watches are probably those launched in the 1950s and late 1960s. At that time, LIP helped the then practically unknown brand Blancpain with the marketing and sale of their waterproof watches. Models from this period bear not only the Blancpain logo but also the LIP logo on the dial. Moreover, initially, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms series was indeed powered by the Lip R23 movement.

LIP watches also made history by being the first brand to introduce electric watches in 1952. The watch worn in space by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin in 1961 was powered by a licensed LIP movement.

Vandaag, LIP continues to innovate and produce quality watches that combine elegant design. Their watches are sold in over 70 countries worldwide and enjoy strong popularity among watch enthusiasts and collectors.
