Selten Jui 聚 Bauhinia – WH&C x Selten

Mother-of-pearl, a guilloché pattern, and a dial that changes with every movement of the wrist.

The Jui Bauhinia was created in collaboration between the Hong Kong brand Selten and the Watch Ho & Co(mmunity) collector group. The entire concept is rooted in Hong Kong, its local watch community, and the bauhinia flower – one of the city's symbols.

The word Jui – 聚 – means to meet or gather, and the very idea of people connected by a shared passion is reflected in the watch's design.

A dial that is the main star

The base of the dial is natural white mother-of-pearl, subsequently tinted pink or purple and precisely machined using CNC.

A geometric Mountain Pattern is carved into its surface, a traditional Chinese motif symbolizing unity, protection, and strength. In the Jui, it takes on further meaning – the individual parts of the pattern represent collectors connected by a common interest, while the concentric circles refer to individual communities and clubs.

The spatial structure, together with the natural iridescence of the mother-of-pearl, creates a striking play of light. Depending on the angle of view, the dial transitions between different shades, revealing natural green or blue reflections.

Pink combines pink-tinted mother-of-pearl with heat-colored skeletonized hands in a purple shade. Purple uses violet-tinted mother-of-pearl and contrasting heat-blued hands. Each variant is produced in a limited series of 200 pieces.

Details with meaning

At the two o'clock position, the Chinese character 二 – two is subtly incorporated, commemorating the second chapter of the Jui project.

Through the sapphire caseback, one can see the automatic Miyota 9039 movement with a specially decorated rotor and the Chinese inscription 聚人聚時聚故事 – loosely translated as a place where people, time, and stories meet.

The 316L stainless steel case has a diameter of 39 mm, a height of 9.95 mm, and a 45.5 mm lug-to-lug. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating, and the water resistance is 5 ATM.

Why choose the Jui Bauhinia?

Primarily because of the dial. The combination of natural mother-of-pearl, color tinting, and a precisely carved Mountain Pattern creates a surface that constantly changes its character in the light. Furthermore, it is not just a decorative element – the individual parts have their own symbolism connected to Hong Kong and the watch community.

Add to that a compact 39mm case, a high-frequency Miyota 9039, and only 200 pieces of each color variant.

About the Selten brand

Selten is an independent Hong Kong brand founded in 2021 by Leonard Tsai, who comes from a family involved in watch dial manufacturing. It is therefore no surprise that dials are one of the brand's greatest strengths.

Selten works with unusual materials and techniques, such as natural mother-of-pearl, meteorite, guilloché, or various surface finishing methods. The name Selten means "rare" in German and refers to the founder's respect for German watchmaking.
