The Islander Brookville Calligraphy Edition offers an original interpretation of an elegant mechanical watch, combining traditional watch design with the aesthetic of handwriting. Based on the popular Brookville collection, it features a completely new dial, hands, crown, and bracelet. The result is a watch with a distinctive character, blending classic elegance with surprising details.
The most striking feature is the dial with a texture reminiscent of fine parchment, which gives the edition its name. Raised Arabic numerals and hour markers feature generous luminescence for easy reading even in the dark. The real delight, however, is a detail you might not notice at first glance: the seconds hand counterweight is shaped like a fountain pen nib. This small but thoughtful touch perfectly captures the character of the entire collection.
The stainless steel case has a versatile diameter of 38 mm, a lug-to-lug length of 44.5 mm, and a thickness of 11 mm. The dial is protected by a flat sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating. The elegant diamond-shaped crown, finished with a decorative cabochon, also deserves attention. Despite its dressy appearance, the watch offers 100-meter water resistance thanks to its screw-down crown.
Power comes from the Japanese Miyota 90S5 automatic caliber, which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides an approximate power reserve of 40 hours. The movement was designed without a date complication, preserving the dial’s clean symmetry. Its operation can be admired through the exhibition caseback, which reveals Islander’s signature blue rotor engraved with the motto “Time is the great equalizer. It makes us all equal.”
The watch is complemented by a solid-link steel bracelet, tapering from 20 to 16 mm. Quick-release spring bars, screw links, and a clasp with tool-free micro-adjustment make it easy to achieve a comfortable fit. A FKM rubber strap is also included, making it easy to change the watch’s look to suit the occasion.
