    Marine 38 Arabic

The Marine 38 mm Arabic watch is inspired by classic marine chronometers, which were once essential for nautical navigation. Originally designed as captain's watches, these models embody the precision and reliability that sailors needed to determine a ship's exact position in the pre-GPS era.

The model features an elegant 38 mm diameter case with polished and brushed surfaces, offering comfort and a timeless look. The dial with its golden structure and printed Arabic numerals is complemented by thermally blued hands – a tribute to traditional watchmaking craftsmanship. A slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides ensures excellent readability and durability.

Inside the watch ticks a Swiss mechanical hand-wound Sellita SW261M-1 movement, prized for its accuracy and reliability. The "push/pull" crown without a logo emphasizes its discreet vintage character. The leather strap adds a classic and elegant look to the watch.

The Marine 38 mm Arabic remains a sought-after piece among collectors worldwide – valued not only for its historical origin but also for its timeless beauty and mechanical perfection.

Behind the Buser Freres brand is Yuriy Shapiro, the founder of the successful watch brand Dekla, a brilliant watchmaker, and a holder of several patents. Thanks to the same background, Buser Freres watches can also boast cases, hands, and dials manufactured in-house at their own workshops in Stuttgart, Germany. D

    About the brand

Buser watches reached the peak of their popularity in the mid-20th century, even though the brand itself was established several decades earlier.

The first mentions of Buser Frères & Cie SA date back to 1892, when Albert Buser founded the family watchmaking company in Niederdorf and established a branch in Reigoldswil, Switzerland. The company initially focused on designing, manufacturing, and supplying selected components and "ébauches" (basic movements, consisting of plates, bridges, wheels, and mainsprings) to other watchmakers for final assembly.

In 1916, several decades later, Buser transformed into a watchmaking manufacture and began producing fully assembled watches. The range included pocket watches and wristwatches, ladies' wristwatches, and dashboard clocks for vehicles.

In 1923, Buser was registered in Niederdorf as a manufacturer of rough movements. The following year, 1924, two new Buser brands – Tip Top and Nidor – were launched on the American market.

In 1925, Buser specialized in the production of levers and rollers and joined an association from which Ebauches SA – a holding company for Swiss watch movement manufacturers – emerged in 1926.

The year 1949 brought Buser's participation in the Basel exhibition and an expansion of its brand portfolio with Esta, Neo, Neova, and Nidor, while in 1951, the brand Frenca was added.

In 1961, Buser, along with three other Swiss watch brands (Phénix, Revue Thommen, and Vulcain), merged to form the Manufactures d’Horlogerie Suisse Réunis SA (M.S.R.) federation. This new organization, based in Biel, produced over 600,000 watches annually, placing it among the largest players in the Swiss watch industry. Buser and Phénix handled assembly, Revue Thommen component manufacturing, and Vulcain product marketing and sales.

In 1963, M.S.R. launched a new ladies' caliber, and in 1967, introduced a modern automatic movement with steel ball bearings, which became a fundamental component of Revue Thommen and Vulcain watches in 1969.

During the 1970s, M.S.R. developed a high-frequency quartz movement and introduced LED digital watches. In 1976, the Marvin brand joined M.S.R. as the fifth member, adding 600 new employees.

In the late 1970s, Buser shifted from watchmaking to industrial production of pressing tools, leading to the discontinuation of the Buser brand in 1978. During the 1980s, M.S.R. was affected by the quartz crisis, which reduced its production to 25,000 watches annually. In the 1990s, the company focused on the Asian market and by the end of the century was producing only 40,000 watches annually. In 1999, M.S.R. sold its facilities in La Chaux-de-Fonds and concentrated production in Waldenburg. The era of watch production ended in July 2000, marking the end of M.S.R.

In 2023, Dekla Watches began producing some historical Buser watch models, enhanced with modern features, in its own manufacturing facilities.
