The Awake Son Mài Frosted Leaf collection is an exceptional fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary Swiss watchmaking. Its design draws inspiration from fascinating natural phenomena and the changing colors of the landscape. The result is a series of handmade dials with remarkable depth, organic textures and subtle metallic reflections. Each piece is entirely unique, its final appearance shaped by the demanding process of layering, sanding and polishing natural materials.
At its heart is Sơn Mài, a traditional Vietnamese lacquering technique in which master artisans gradually apply layers of natural lacquer, colored pigments and sheets of pure silver. The special Frosted Leaf technique involves repeatedly placing silver sheets between successive layers of lacquer, which are then sanded and polished by hand. Gradually, fascinating patterns emerge, evoking natural landscapes, water surfaces or shimmering light. Making a single dial takes approximately 15 hours, and no two are exactly alike.
Also worthy of note is the original Chiaroscuro luminescent system, developed by Awake to accentuate the dial’s three-dimensional effect. The special construction of the hands and applied indices, known as coiffe, combines Super-LumiNova BGW9 with polished, brushed and faceted steel elements. In the dark, it creates a subtle glow that enhances the depth of the lacquer and the reflections of the silver sheets without compromising the watch’s elegant appearance.
The 316L stainless steel case measures 38 mm in diameter, 44.75 mm from lug to lug and 11.5 mm thick, including the gently domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. The combination of a polished bezel, brushed sides and subtly stepped lugs evokes classic watchmaking aesthetics. Water resistance is 10 ATM (100 metres).
Power comes from the Swiss La Joux-Perret G101 automatic calibre, which has a power reserve of 68 hours. Its construction can be admired through the transparent sapphire case back, which also reveals a specially designed tungsten rotor featuring polished, brushed and microblasted surfaces.
The watch is completed by a luxurious nubuck calfskin strap, handcrafted by the French manufacturer Maison Bouveret. It is lined with rubberised calfskin for enhanced durability and wearing comfort. The special Fitwell M1 pin buckle allows precise micro-adjustment of the length in 3 mm increments.
The Awake Son Mài Frosted Leaf brings together a hand-lacquered dial with pure silver, a Swiss mechanical movement and refined details in a watch whose greatest value lies in the skill, patience and craftsmanship of the people who make it.
