Arcange AS01 Polar Grey

The Arcange AS01 Polar Grey model is the epitome of modern watchmaking, paying homage to classic "sector dial" watches from the 1930s and 1940s. This model from the French workshop Arcange combines historical charm with uncompromising modern construction and a top-of-the-line automatic movement.

The dominant feature of the watch is the two-tone grey dial with a matte and circular brushed finish. The dial's segmentation (the so-called sector dial) is highlighted by midnight blue indices that perfectly match the heat-blued Alpha-style hands. This detail gives the watch depth and changing reflections depending on the angle of light.

Although the watch is equipped with an automatic movement, the manufacturer managed to keep the overall thickness to just 9.5 mm (including the domed sapphire crystal). The 37.2 mm diameter case is made of 316L stainless steel and combines polished, brushed, and sandblasted surfaces, creating a sophisticated visual contrast.

Arcange is an independent French watch brand, whose creation is linked to a personal discovery by its founder. As a child, he discovered his grandfather's watch from 1969, and this moment became the impulse for a lasting interest in the mechanics and aesthetics of classic watches. Arcange's designs therefore often feature elements inspired by vintage models and also the instrumental appearance of aircraft instruments.

The watches are finally assembled and inspected in Besançon, the traditional center of French watchmaking, and are complemented by leather straps also made in France.

From a technical point of view, Arcange primarily uses Miyota 9 series mechanical automatic movements, with some models featuring decorated rotors or transparent case backs. The brand is also characterized by so-called sector dials, subdued color schemes, and clean arrangement of elements that refer to the French tradition of functional and clear design. The cases are generally steel, often with brushed surfaces and polished details that highlight simple geometric shapes.

Arcange offers a glimpse into contemporary independent watchmaking that builds on French tradition, works with technical details, and at the same time maintains its own, understated design language.
