This time, designer \u003cstrong\u003eYu Ando\u003c\/strong\u003e returned to memories of old sci-fi films and series filled with massive computers, blinking indicator lights, and rotating magnetic tapes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is a watch inspired by the \u003cstrong\u003e9-track magnetic tape drives used in computer systems like the IBM System\/360\u003c\/strong\u003e. And the similarity definitely doesn't end with just the colors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eWhat time is it, really?\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eDon't look for classic hands here. Time is displayed by \u003cstrong\u003ethree separate rotating discs\u003c\/strong\u003e, whose movement recalls the reels of old magnetic tape drives.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe largest cream-colored disc with three openings displays the \u003cstrong\u003eseconds\u003c\/strong\u003e, and its shape directly resembles a magnetic tape reel. You read the minutes using the cream element on the outer side of the dial, while the hours are shown by a separate silver disc in the center.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe final version features a \u003cstrong\u003esilver electroplated hour disc with a longer matte marker\u003c\/strong\u003e, which differs from the first photographed prototypes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eIt takes a moment to get used to this way of reading the time. And that is a huge part of this watch's charm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eDetails like an old computer\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe cream color is no coincidence. It refers to the typical shade of plastic parts from old computing technology. We find the same inspiration on the dial ring, where the individual markers are designed based on the \u003cstrong\u003ebuttons and indicator lights of period computer panels\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eAt the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, we find white elements complemented by small \u003cstrong\u003ered, green, and blue indicators\u003c\/strong\u003e. Moreover, these color details are \u003cstrong\u003ehand-painted.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe result is not a literal miniature of a computer, but a clever interpretation of its visual language.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eMiyota 9039 Premium Automatic\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003ePowering the unusual time display is the proven Japanese automatic caliber Miyota 9039 Premium Automatic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe movement operates at a frequency of \u003cstrong\u003e28,800 vibrations per hour\u003c\/strong\u003e and offers a power reserve of approximately \u003cstrong\u003e42 hours\u003c\/strong\u003e. Thanks to the sapphire case back, you can watch it at work.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe case has unconventional proportions of \u003cstrong\u003e41 mm in width and just 36 mm lug-to-lug\u003c\/strong\u003e, so despite its bold design, it remains very compact on the wrist. The height is 10.7 mm.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe top of the case is fastened with \u003cstrong\u003efour visible screws\u003c\/strong\u003e, the front is protected by sapphire glass with an internal anti-reflective coating, and we also find sapphire on the back.
